Department 56 Snow Village, Christmas Miniature Villages, and Halloween Village Displays

Christmas decorating using the Dickens Village collection from Department 56.

If you have a passion for literature, an interest in history, or if you just love to collect beautiful things, you’ll adore the Dickens Village collection. The  collectables make gorgeous decorations, and perfect Christmas gifts.

The Dickens Village range from Department 56 features beautifully crafted, finely detailed, and historically authentic buildings and accessories.

It’s a lovely idea to commemorate each Christmas by adding a new Dickens Village to your collection. Department 56 regularly introduces new village designs to the collection, so there’s always something new to discover. Each collectable is offered for a fixed period of time before being retired, so Dept 56 pieces are all limited edition collectors’ items.

Here's four easy steps to building a mantle or bookshelf display using Dickens Villages and accessories:

1. Begin with a single Dickens Village building, or two or three which go together. Find an interesting way to arrange them, using varied angles and levels. To place the villages on different levels, you could use a piece of styrofoam, or a Department 56 snowy platform accessory.

2. Add accessories such as trees, and perhaps even some acrylic ice and snow for an authentic wintry look.

3. Complete the scene with a selection of Dickens figurines. There are lots to choose from, including characters from Dickens novels such as Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim, other famous characters from the Victorian era such as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, delightful Christmas figurines like carolers and chestnut vendors, and even Dickens himself. There are also charming horse-drawn carriages and coaches..

4. Enhance the Christmassy feel of your Dickens Village display by adding Christmas decorations, tree trimmings, or even delicate strings of Christmas lights.
