Christmas Village Cutouts

So what exactly do we mean by Christmas village cutouts?

Simply put, cutouts are the large shapes of Christmas trees, castles, churches, snowmen, jolly elves, and sleighs cut from plywood that spring up out lawns all across the nation at Christmas time.

In fact, Christmas cutouts of St. Nick himself and all eight reindeer usually migrate to the roof at some point.

Where these things go during the off-season is anyone’s guess (actually, I’d prefer not to know). I would venture to guess however, that the work that goes into these displays is either labor of love or the fruit some friendly yet serious competition between neighbors.

These wonderfully homegrown lawn decorations when combined with light displays invariably make the local newspaper and give occasion for folks to venture out after dinner. In North America, the evening drive to admire the light displays and decorated lawns around the community has become another much anticipated way to celebrate the season.

There are plenty of patterns for Christmas village cutouts available online. Woodworking sites or Christmas sites should point you in the right direction.
