Department 56 Display Ideas: Use a Glass Cloche to Encase Village Buildings

I recently received an email newsletter from Department 56 promoting the gift sets that use the new Long-Life Cordless Lighting technology.

The North Pole Series village building "Mrs. Clause Handmade Christmas Stockings" was encased a lovely Victorian bell cloche.

Cloches are bell shaped domes traditionally made from glass that gardeners used to place over tender seedlings for protection in the early spring.

While the idea of decorating D56 using clear glass jars is not new, I thought the shape of the cloche was so lovely and simple. I really loved the look. But first two things: where do they (as in Dept 56 staff) come up with these great ideas, and then where can I get some!

Cloches aren't normally used by gardeners anymore. They are used more as decorative items. But I did some searching on the net and found the following places to buy cloches. Enjoy!

Thomas Kinkade Home For The Holidays Collectible BThe Thomas Kinkade Home for the Holidays Bell Jar is also another nice decor item in a similar style. The 3D sculpted village features a real moving train, with lights and music.
