Department 56 Halloween Display—Come On Over to the Spooky Side

It’s not just about jingle bells, candy canes and horse-drawn sleighs, you know. Department 56 does have a spooky side. The Department 56 Halloween Display was first introduced in 1999 and has since acquired loyal followers.

Unlike other Halloween decorations that maybe last one or two years, the Halloween village buildings, in customary Dept 56 handcrafted style, are unique porcelain and ceramic pieces meant to be collected and passed on. You can bring out these pieces every year for Halloween and be sure to get the same reaction as you got the first time.

Decorating with Halloween Village Buildings and Sound Effects for the Best Reaction

The first Dept 56 Halloween village piece I saw was the "Animated Ghostly Carousel". I was in a retail store and the Halloween display was surrounded by quite a crowd. The haunting sound effects and whirling ghoulish carousel riders had everybody captivated. I certainly had never seen anything like it.

Here's some quick ideas for simple Department 56 Halloween displays you can use to accessorize your front window or entryway window:

  • Make a ghostly graveyard using the “Village Halloween Fence” strung up with the “Glowing String Of Scary Lights” and the “Halloween Yard Decorations” which includes six pumpkins, one tombstone, bones, two cats and eight bats.
  • Go all the way with "Castle Blackstone" or "Haunted Windmill" complete with spooky sounds and fiber optic light effects.
